Fanatical About Film Art

The Christmas period often brings with it some very different items that need picture framing. It’s wonderful to celebrate and show-off our “fandom” and a well chosen picture frame, layout and mount design can really make those precious photo’s, pictures and fan artefacts really stand out. Much like their subject matter they become a piece worth celebrating, displaying and talking about with others.

Not just simply promotional posters (although we have done some wonderful examples of these) - Recently we had the pleasure of framing a couple of TV / Film (and book!) related fan art pieces.

The Map of Middle Earth Picture Framed Fan Art

The first is a large piece of “J.R.R.Tolkein” (book, film and now TV show) inspired fan art. A distressed (handmade) map of Middle Earth - Created on plain paper and containing various pigments, inks and some gold leaf highlights. Despite asking the origin of the piece (…Dwarf, Elven, Orc, Goblin, Human, etc?) the client wasn’t sure what they wanted or how best to present and so left it to us to explore possibilities.

In this particular picture framing example we went with an off white cream and light sand speckled “black core” colour mount (aptly named by our materials supplier as “Andover Cream”). This mount was cut precisely with our computerised mount cutter and placed over a similarly cut shining “Gold” mount. It complemented the gold leaf on the map wonderfully.

Our “Black Core” coloured mounts are modern Fine Art Trade Guild conservation grade card. They get their name from the central card layers that are black in colour (rather than the usual white). This means that when cut well (with a perfect angular bevel), the black is revealed under the colour creating a black outline.

Finished under glass in a slightly distressed, aged looking black wooden frame, the client was extremely pleased with the finished picture and the final outcome of this Unexpected Journey.

Lastly, we will share with you this fine piece of TV show memorabilia.

Taken from the TV show Stargate SG-1, two certified reproductions of the shows concept art are presented. This is a great way of showing such things along with proof of its authenticity.

Much like the map, it was quite a large presentation but nothing we couldn’t handle in our on-site bespoke picture frame makers workshop.

In this example, once again, we used a “black core” mount card (a grey colour in this card) to really outline and highlight the prints and certificates. Finished behind picture glass and graphite style frame to accentuate the “sketch” aspect of the art.

The client for this piece was happy, and so were we!

We absolutely love making picture frames for people and doing the very best job we can. Whatever your picture framing needs be they photos, prints, canvases, certificates, watercolours, paint boards, newspaper cutting, textiles, diamond art, cross stiches, tapestries, sports shirts, flags, medals, books, magazines or other memorabilia, we have a trusted experience in presenting them at their best.

Do bring your pieces along and visit us, we are always open and honest about the process and techniques used and can usual help you secure a design and approach that will present your items at their best.
