Celebrating Good memories - Making a House a Home

The summer is often a time when great memories are made. We all have our own ways of capturing those moments;

  • Photos of that great holiday, barbeque, party, day out, much loved pet or uncle John’s hilarious garden dance.

  • Paintings of a place we love, street art from that romantic city visited or perhaps that amazing portrait from that overly talented niece who has just finished an art degree.

  • A ticket, t-shirt and glow stick from that incredible concert at that amazing festival.

  • A football shirt from that amazing team who won that spectacular final.

  • That object you found on that secluded beach holiday or perhaps that trinket you bought to remember that precious and lovely time you had together.

Of course, the list can go on and on.

Such items are important and mean something beyond what they are. Every time you see it, you remember and relive those positive feelings of the time. They often become a talking point helping enhance the stories and explanations of those moments that mean so much to you.

With our customers, we have been lucky enough to help present such items (memories) for them. It gives us tremendous pleasure talking about the image or artefact and what it means. We also talk about where they are looking to present them in the home, the aspect and reasons for display. It all helps us to help you make the right choice when it comes to designing, framing and presenting your piece.

When it comes to prompting and re-experiencing those positive feelings, a great aspect for them in the home are those regular gathering and “talking point” rooms - The living room, the dinning / eating area and kitchen. Nothing beats a glance at, recollection and conversation with family and friends (especially when it’s about uncle John’s hilarious garden dance!).

We’d like to conclude this article with a look at a recent “memory” item we designed and framed for one of our customers. They had an old black and white 35mm film strip (positive) of family members. It was somewhat damaged and misshapen from years of rolling out the reel and viewing. A very sentimental and important piece for the customer that gave glimpses of it’s past members and amazing days out from many years ago. They wanted something contemporary but respectful of its age. A more permanent display and decoration for the home.

We helped the customer design a modern presentation over 1 meter wide but shallow on the height. Several techniques were used to complete the presentation

  • Permanent “dry mounting” of the film strip images (a vacuum process that removes wrinkles and adheres the photos to card or a board). We divided the film strip up so that those portrait snaps could be presented upright.

  • Mount colours (Sepia tones and cream/grey whites) to enhance the photos and respect their vintage appeal. We use a computerised mount cutter to ensure pinpoint accuracy and clean bevels on the aperture cuts.

  • Float mounting of the images with suspended overmount to create a presentation box effect.

  • Modern style frame edge with an antique silver finish (A nod to the classic nature of the photo film strip).

  • Anti-reflective “Art Glass” (This helps eliminate up to 99% of reflection coupled with improved UV light protection) to help preserve and show the pictures at their very best in challenging light conditions.

The customer was absolutely delighted with the outcome (and so were we!) - We are sure looking at this picture on the wall will bring back so many good family memories.

If you have a happy memory surrounding a photo, picture or item of memorabilia you would like to display - Why not bring it along to our picture framing shop. You can find or contact us here. We would love to meet you and discuss what can be done to present your treasured item.
